Greeting from the local mayor

On behalf of the former mining village of Imsbach, I would like to welcome you to our homepage.

Local mayor Oliver Krupp leans against a large stone

Imsbach is located on the southern slope of the Donnersberg and has around 1,000 inhabitants. In 2018, the municipality celebrated the first documented mention of the Waldmark "Albusheim" 1,125 years ago, which roughly corresponded to today's district.

Mining was probably the reason for the development of Imsbach. There is evidence that iron has been mined and smelted here since Roman times, but probably even earlier. Since the 15th century, we have also heard of mining for copper, later also for silver, cobalt and manganese and even coal. Many generations of Imsbach residents worked as miners in the ore mines until the last shift was worked in the 1920s. All subsequent attempts to restart mining were unsuccessful.

Today, visitors to our beautiful, idyllically situated village can discover its rich mining history for themselves at the BergbauErlebnisWelt. The former copper-silver-cobalt mine "Weiße Grube" was opened as a visitor mine back in 1979. In spring 2006, the former "Maria" iron ore mine was added, after the Palatinate Mining Museum had been showing the extraction and processing of raw materials since 2002. On three newly established circular mining trails on the subject of copper and iron, numerous boards provide information about the mining past of the municipality of Imsbach.

But apart from mining, there are many other reasons to visit Imsbach. I would be delighted to welcome you personally to Imsbach at our Mineral and Fossil Fair, which takes place every year on the 3rd weekend in September, at our Kerwe on the 2nd weekend in October or at one of our many festivities.

Experience the hospitality and conviviality of the people of Imsbach, you're sure to come back! Or even better: stay here for a few days and relax in Imsbach during a vacation on the farm, in vacation apartments or in private accommodation. The Imsbach restaurants and the Kupferberg/ Kronenbuch and Gruben huts also welcome you and your family at any time.

Explore BergbauErlebnisWelt Imsbach or lace up your hiking boots for a hike in and around Imsbach. You won't regret it!

So I remain with good luck and best regards from the former mining village of Imsbach

Yours, Oliver Krupp
